Spotted Lanternfly Numbers Rise Across Connecticut

Connecticut scientists say the spotted lanternfly population is larger this year, with heavy activity reported in Fairfield and New Haven counties. The invasive insects don’t harm people but can damage crops and make wine and honey taste bad. State officials are asking residents to kill them on sight and report sightings.

CTDOT Pauses Highway Work For Labor Day Weekend

The Connecticut Department of Transportation says all construction and maintenance on limited-access highways will be suspended for the Labor Day holiday. The pause runs from 6 a.m. Friday, August 29, through 6 a.m. Tuesday, September 2. Only emergency work will be allowed during that time. CTDOT says contractors must follow contract rules on restrictions.

Court Orders New Trial For Man Imprisoned 18 Years In New Milford Case

Connecticut’s Appellate Court has ordered a new trial for 58 year old Roger Brown, who has served more than 18 years of a 23-year sentence for sexually assaulting two girls in New Milford. Judges ruled police delayed his arrest for years and his trial lawyer failed to challenge it.
