Newtown police seek info on incident that severly injured woman riding horse

Newtown police are searching for a dirt bike operator whose reckless actions caused a woman on horseback to be thrown and suffer a broken neck. It happened Sept. 1 on Platts Hill Road. Police say the dirt bike operator, a white male about 13 to 15 years old, stopped to apologize before leaving the scene.

Danbury schools enrollment drops again

Student enrollment in Danbury Public Schools has dropped for the second straight year, falling to 11,430 students — down 526 from last year. School leaders say declines are sharpest among English learners, which still makes up more than a third of the district’s population, and low-income students.

Mouring underway after sudden death of Danbury police officer

The Danbury Police Department is mourning the sudden death of 39-year-old Officer Dominic Barthelemy, who passed away unexpectedly in New York on October 23. Barthelemy joined Danbury’s force in 2023 after serving two years with the NYPD and primarily worked the overnight patrol shift.
