Federal Funding Approved for Air Line Trail Improvements
Connecticut has secured more than seven million dollars in first-year federal funding to improve the Air Line State Park Trail. The money will support smoother surfaces, better drainage, improved signs and more accessible trail entrances in seven rural communities. The state expects the project could receive up to 40 million dollars over five years.

A serious crash involving a telephone pole and downed wires closed part of South Street in Danbury Sunday morning. Police said the closure was near Wixted Avenue and High Street and it remained in place for an extended period, during which time drivers were being urged to avoid the area and use another route.

A 20-person wildland firefighting crew left Connecticut Friday to help battle wildfires in Oregon. The team includes 19 members of the Connecticut Interstate Fire Crew and one firefighter from Rhode Island. State environmental officials say the volunteers are nationally trained in wildfire suppression and incident command. Federal funds will fully reimburse Connecticut for the deployment.
