Squantz Pond State Park Reopens After Storm Damage

Squantz Pond State Park in New Fairfield has reopened after being closed for more than a week following the July Fourth storms. Officials say crews removed broken and hanging tree limbs that posed safety hazards. The park uses a limited reservation system for vehicle passes.

Bethel Man Avoids Jail in Fatal Hit-and-Run Case

66 year old Andrew Hitchcock of Bethel received a suspended three-year prison sentence and three years of probation in a 2025 hit-and-run crash that killed 65 year old Michael Rieve. Hitchcock also must complete 50 hours of community service.

Fundraiser Helps New Fairfield Family After Fire

More than 15-thousand dollars has been raised for a New Fairfield family whose home was destroyed by a lightning-sparked fire during the July Fourth storms. The family escaped safely with its pets, but the house is uninhabitable and could take up to a year to rebuild.

Eversource Customers Cut Power Demand During Heat Wave

Eversource says customers enrolled in its ConnectedSolutions programs reduced electricity demand by 227 megawatts during the July 2 heat wave. The reduction was equal to the power used by about 45,000 homes and helped support reliable service during peak demand.

Sip 4 Support Fundraiser Planned in Danbury

Four Danbury-area nonprofits will benefit from the Sip 4 Support fundraiser September 17 at Golf Lounge 18 in the Danbury Fair Mall. The 40-dollar admission includes a drink, appetizers and golf simulators. Proceeds will support Habitat for Humanity and three other community organizations.

Jerry Craft Programs Set at Danbury Library
