Tributes are growing for Danbury native and Bridgeport police Officer Cooper Whiteside, who was killed Monday in a motorcycle crash on Sugar Hollow Road, along with Brittany Islami of New Milford. The driver of another vehicle involved was seriously injured. Memorials have been set up near the crash scene. Funeral arrangements are still pending.

Connecticut’s new kindergarten age cutoff is sharply reducing the number of 4-year-olds in classrooms. State data shows kindergartners under age 5 dropped from 26% before the change to 9% this past school year. The waiver process will be eliminated statewide in 2027.

28 year old Dominique Harrison of Danbury, already charged in her newborn son’s 2018 death, told police she left another newborn in woods in 2019. Court documents say the baby was alive when abandoned and dead when she returned. Harrison remains jailed on two-point-five-million dollars bond.

38 year old Cooper Whiteside of Danbury and 34 year old Brittany Islami of New Milford were killed when their motorcycle collided head-on with a Jeep on Sugar Hollow Road. The Jeep driver suffered serious injuries. Police are still investigating what caused the crash.

66 year old Andrew Hitchcock of Bethel received a suspended three-year prison sentence, three years of probation and community service after pleading no contest to negligent homicide. Hitchcock was charged after 65 year old Michael Rieve was struck and killed on Nashville Road last September.
