North Haven Ranks Among Nation’s Hottest
Real estate is booming here in Connecticut. North Haven ranks eighth among the nation’s hottest housing markets, according to Realtor.com. Listings received more than five times the national average views and stayed on the market for a median of 30 days. Stamford ranked 11th.

Newtown’s wetlands commission has approved Monroe landscaper Austin Bonner’s plan for a Christmas tree farm, pumpkin patch and cornfield on Obtuse Road near the Brookfield border. The one-acre growing area is within a protected wetlands buffer, but officials determined farming is permitted on the property.

A Redding landscaping company owner has been charged with failing to provide workers’ compensation insurance. State officials say 44 year old Matthew Lang, owner of Shoots to Roots Plant Care, did not carry insurance or demonstrate the ability to compensate injured workers. He is due in Danbury court September 28.

An Ansonia police officer faces a disorderly conduct charge following an off-duty incident. Police say 24 year old Denyce Ruiz became combative after drinking at a Stamford festival August 10 and was briefly hospitalized. The department has launched an internal investigation.

Three workers were injured during an inmate attack at the New Haven Correctional Center Monday. Officials say the inmate struck a health care worker in the head following a medical evaluation. Two correctional officers were also hurt while restraining the inmate. State police are investigating.

Police have identified 43 year old Marco Leon-Lopez of Danbury as the pedestrian killed Thursday night on South Main Street in Waterbury. Police say 38 year old Meralis Rivera-Maldonado of Waterbury struck him while impaired. She faces manslaughter, reckless driving and operating under the influence charges.

Police say 60 year old David Yorwerth of New Haven used a forged ID and withdrawal slips to steal $27,000 from a Ridgefield resident’s bank account. Yorwerth faces forgery, identity theft, larceny and criminal impersonation charges. He remains jailed on $5,000 bond.
