Danbury Offers Free Outdoor Showing of Jumanji
Danbury’s Summer Movie Night series continues Friday with a free showing of “Jumanji” at Candlewood Town Park. The 1995 film starring Robin Williams will begin tomorrow around dusk… at about 8 p.m. Families are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs. Additional movie nights are planned August 21st and 28th.

Danbury’s San Gennaro Festival returns August 19th through the 23rd on the Danbury Green. The five-day event will feature live music, food vendors, amusement rides, fireworks, a laser light show and eating contests. Admission is free, with a Mass and procession opening the festival Wednesday afternoon.

Connecticut’s Sales Tax-Free Week begins Sunday and runs through August 22nd. Most clothing and footwear priced under 300 dollars per item will be exempt from sales tax, up from the previous 100 dollar limit. Backpacks and cleats are also included, while nonelectronic school supplies are now tax-free year-round.

Connecticut wildlife officials are warning residents to take precautions as conflicts with black bears increase. More than 50 bear home entries have been reported this year across nearly two dozen municipalities, already surpassing all of 2025. Residents are urged to secure trash, remove bird feeders and keep doors and windows locked.
