Danbury Church Partially Collapses on West Street
A church on West Street in Danbury partially collapsed Thursday afternoon. Firefighters searched the building, including with thermal imaging cameras, and found no one trapped. There were no injuries. Building officials and the fire marshal are investigating the cause, while contractors work to stabilize what remains of the structure.

27 year old Skyler Corte-Real of Danbury is being held on 50-thousand dollars bond following her arrest on several felony firearm charges. 29 year old Griffyn Nottage of Brewster, New York, was also arrested and is being held on 100-thousand dollars bond. Both have pleaded not guilty and are due back in court August 19.

Firefighters from several area departments responded to a large house fire on Shane Drive in Southbury early Thursday. The fire was reported around 1:15 a.m., and crews remained on the scene for about four hours. Mutual aid came from Roxbury, Sandy Hook, Oxford, Woodbury, Middlebury and other departments.

Researchers are conducting Connecticut’s first scientific black bear population survey in more than a decade. Teams are collecting hair samples at 340 sites across western Connecticut and using DNA testing to identify individual bears. The state currently estimates Connecticut’s bear population at between 1,000 and 1,200.
