Governor Ned Lamont has introduced legislation aimed at boosting recruitment and retention of police officers and firefighters across Connecticut. The proposal would waive tuition and fees at public colleges for eligible public safety workers and create a mortgage assistance program to help them buy homes in the communities they serve. The bill, House Bill 5046, is now before the legislature’s Public Safety and Security Committee.
