Connecticut Public School Enrollment Hits 20-Year Low

Public school enrollment in Connecticut has dropped to its lowest level in at least 20 years, according to new data from the Connecticut Department of Education. The state counted 497,764 students in pre-K through grade 12 for the 2025–26 school year, a decline of more than 10,600 students from the year before. Education officials cite falling birthrates and increased school choice as key drivers of the ongoing drop.
