The national weather service says that a blizzard warning remains in effect until 6 this evening, with heavy snow accumulations expected across Connecticut and New York. Wind gusts up to 55 miles per hour are creating whiteout conditions in many areas, dropping visibility to near zero at times. Officials here in Connecticut and in New York State warn travel may be very difficult to impossible, with conditions described as dangerous and potentially life-threatening. Heavy snow and strong winds may also bring down trees and power lines, leading to scattered power outages and damage.
