In Newtown, voters have approved a $132 million budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The new spending plan will mean a tax rate increase of 1.3 percent. Also given the green light by Newtown voters… 3 propositions calling for spending $1.5 million to replace the roof on the municipal center; $1.2 million to replace the air treatment system at Newtown High School; and another $450,000 for improvements to the air treatment system at Newtown Middle School. In Newtown, votes are held separately on the town portion and the school portion of the budget. This time around, the town portion passed by a wider margin than did the school portion.
