A $1.8 Million proposed cut to the school budget in New Fairfield has brought out school teachers and students to rally against the idea. This past Tuesday morning they gathered outside school, holding signs with messages like “Cuts hurt kids” and “New Fairfield students deserve more.” The protests come following the Board of Finance’s decision to slash New Fairfield’s proposed $40.7 million school budget by nearly $1.8 million. Another cut would take away $300,000 from the proposed $12.8 million town operating budget. The protesters said that the cut in school money would mean the loss of 24 positions in the school system.
