Three people died in car crashes on state highways over Memorial Day weekend. Connecticut State Police released statistics that show they responded to 246 crashes statewide over the long holiday weekend, with two involving serious injuries and three reported fatalities. While those numbers are sobering, they are better than last year’s Memorial Day statistics, which included 359 crashes; 35 injuries; and 12 fatalities. The data includes activity from Friday at midnight up to 11:59 p.m. Sunday. State police reported an increase in seatbelt violations this year though, with 186 compared to 145 last Memorial Day weekend.
