Danbury’s Nuvance Health had plans to shut down the labor ward at Sharon Hospital, which they say is losing $450,000 a week. The state of Connecticut and federal regulators however, put the brakes on that plan. Lawmakers denied a request by Nuvance Health to close the labor ward of Sharon Hospital. Nuvance, which manages Danbury, Norwalk and five other hospitals in Connecticut and New York, claims that Sharon Hospital faces serious hardships, and is a very under-utilized maternity unit. Nuvance has until September 18 to appeal the decision.
