Danbury Mayor Dean Esposito has announced that the City of Danbury has successfully produced biodiesel from so-called ‘F.O.G.’ which consists of Fats, Oils & Grease. The whole thing dates back to 2019 as a project to address the difficulties of processing Fats, Oils & Grease that is collected from sewer collection systems and grease separators at restaurants. By converting Fats, Oils & Grease to biodiesel, Danbury’s Wastewater Treatment Plant can now sell the product or utilize it to generate power, for heating fuel, or to fuel their fleets. It will generate nearly 282,000 gallons of renewable fuel per year… meaning an estimated net income of $1.3 million per year for the City.
