The Connecticut Department of Housing has received $4.5 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to increase housing options for Section 8 recipients. The money will be used to pay about 10 caseworkers who will pair Section 8 residents with neighborhoods that better meet their long-term goals. It will be distributed in increments of $900,000 over the next five years. The program is specifically designed to help families with children find housing in what the state considers “opportunity neighborhoods” which tend to have low crime rates, highly accredited schools and more job opportunities.
