Development Concerns In Newtown

A Revolutionary War-era road in Newtown is at the center of a debate over a proposed housing development. On July 15, the town will vote on discontinuing Reservoir Road, a move opposed by conservation activists who fear it will harm wetlands and historical sites. Developer George Trudell plans to build 117 homes, preserving 85 acres as open space. Conservationists meanwhile, are campaigning to keep the road undisturbed. They argue the development threatens a key piece of the historic Revolutionary Route.
