Governor Ned Lamont has announced the protection of 1,364 acres of watershed lands in Winchester, marking the largest conservation project funded by the Highlands Conservation Act in its 20-year history. Winchester is the first community to benefit from this program, which protects 3.4 million acres across four states. The land will remain a source of clean drinking water, safeguard wildlife habitats, and provide recreational opportunities. The effort was a collaboration between the Connecticut DEEP, Housatonic (Who-za-tonic) Valley Association, and local volunteers.
