New Milford has agreed to settle a federal lawsuit with Shawn Henning, one of two men exonerated after serving nearly 30 years in prison for the 1985 murder of Everett Carr. The town’s council approved the settlement, though specific details remain undisclosed. Henning and Ralph “Ricky” Birch previously settled with the state for $25 million due to wrongful convictions linked to erroneous testimony by criminologist Henry Lee. Henning’s willingness to settle with the town aims to provide closure after years of trauma, while Birch has yet to agree to a similar resolution. The settlement will need final approval from the town’s Board of Finance and residents.
