New Milford voters will decide this evening on a proposed $2.4 million settlement for Shawn Henning, one of two men wrongly convicted in the 1985 murder of Everett Carr. Henning and Ralph Birch spent nearly 30 years in prison before their exoneration in 2020, following a judge’s ruling that crucial forensic evidence presented during their trials was fabricated. While Birch plans to take his case to trial next year, the settlement for Henning will be presented at a special town meeting at 6 p.m. The Board of Selectmen approved the settlement to avoid a costly and uncertain trial.
