Danbury Businessman Headed To Prison

A Danbury business owner has been sentenced to seven months in prison for tax evasion. Federal officials say 58-year-old Bill Makros concealed income from his company, Budget Tree and Stump Removal Service, LLC, to avoid paying $140,694 in federal taxes. Between 2016 and 2020, Makros deposited customer checks into personal or non-business accounts and sometimes cashed checks without recording them. Makros must also pay $137,672 in restitution to the IRS. He pleaded guilty on July 1 and is set to report to prison on January 7.
