David Coffey, arrested in connection to a 1989 cold case, appeared in Danbury Superior Court on Wednesday. The 53-year-old was appointed a public defender and pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping and conspiracy related to the abduction and rape of an 11-year-old girl. The crime, which occurred in the Lake Avenue/Merrimac Street area, went unsolved for decades. DNA testing, triggered by the victim’s request last year, linked Coffey to the crime. Coffey remains in custody on $750,000 bond and is due back in court in December.
