Lithium Fire In New Fairfield Highlights New Dangers

Firefighters in New Fairfield quickly responded to a van fire carrying lithium batteries and propane tanks Sunday afternoon. Crews were called to the scene yesterday around 4:20 p.m. and used multiple vehicles to extinguish the flames. The New Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department reported no nearby homes were affected. Officials said the department is prepared for such emergencies, though specialized equipment for lithium fires wasn’t needed this time. The fire marshal’s office is investigating.
