Southbury Eagle Observatory Now Open

The Shepaug Eagle Observation Area in Southbury is now open for its 38th season, offering a chance to view bald eagles and other birds of prey in their natural habitat. Located near the Shepaug Dam, the site is a prime wintering spot for eagles, which feed on aquatic life in the area. Up to 100 eagles winter in Connecticut each year. The observatory is free to visit, but reservations are required. Open Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays through March 9, visitors are encouraged to bring binoculars and dress warmly.
