Push Underway For Expansion Of Preschool Access

Governor Ned Lamont is pushing for the largest expansion of preschool access in Connecticut’s history. His proposal would create a Universal Preschool Endowment, seeded with $300 million from the state’s 2025 budget surplus. Future surpluses would continue funding the program. The plan aims to provide free preschool for families earning up to $100,000, limit costs to $20 per day for those earning up to $150,000, and add 20,000 new preschool slots by 2032.
