A Connecticut woman is facing charges after police say she altered and fraudulently cashed a check. Authorities say 28-year-old Soniah Thompson of Waterbury turned herself in following an investigation into check washing… that’s a scheme where criminals erase and then rewrite check details, generally things like names or dollar amounts… or both. In this case, it involved both, as the altered check, originally issued to another person, was cashed at a bank with Thompson’s name and an inflated amount. She was charged with larceny and forgery and then released… for now anyway… on a $15,000 bond.
