Connecticut’s spring fire season is heating up fast. Since January, 155 wildfires have scorched roughly 385 acres—double the number from the same period last year. DEEP says most fires are human-caused, and brush fires are dangerous. One firefighter died last fall, and eight others were hurt in 2024. State residents are now being urged to follow open burning laws, clear vegetation near homes, and fully extinguish any outdoor fires before leaving. Fire danger levels automatically suspend burn permits.
