DEEP Warns Of Fire Danger

Connecticut’s spring fire season is off to a dangerous start, with 155 wildfires reported since January, burning around 385 acres—double the number from the same period last year. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says most fires are human-caused. In 2024 alone, one firefighter died and eight others were injured. Residents are now urged to follow open burning laws, clear vegetation around homes, and ensure all outdoor fires are fully extinguished before leaving. Fire danger levels can also lead to automatic suspension of burn permits.
