Metro North Beefing up Commuter Cell Service

Connecticut commuters could soon see fewer dropped calls on the train. Metro-North’s New Haven Line is getting a major cell service upgrade. Thirty high-powered towers and small cell nodes are being installed along the route. The $6 million project is a joint effort with AT&T. The move targets long-standing dead zones between New Haven and Grand Central. State officials say better wireless service helps boost ridership—and it’s been one of the most common passenger complaints.
