Connecticut has launched a new statewide Purple Alert system to help locate missing adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Similar to Amber and Silver Alerts, the new notification is issued through 911 and targets those 18 and older with cognitive conditions, including autism and Alzheimer’s. Officials say the system fills a gap in existing alerts and allows for quicker, more tailored responses. About a dozen Purple Alerts have already been used in the last two weeks. Connecticut is the fifth state to implement the program.
