The Connecticut Senate has passed a bill to extend Paid Family and Medical Leave benefits to roughly 50,000 school employees across the state. Senate Bill 1427 passed 24-11 along party lines and now moves to the House. If approved, the law would cover paraeducators, food service workers, custodians, and other support staff in both public and private schools—groups previously excluded unless bargained in by unions.
