New Milford Starts Work on Structurally Deficient Bridges

Work is underway to replace the Van Car Road bridge in New Milford, with completion expected in early November. The town also plans to start replacing the Sand Road bridge by mid-June. Both spans were deemed structurally deficient, with daily traffic of several hundred vehicles. Officials say the $5.8 million in combined projects are being funded with 80% federal and 20% state dollars. The town is inspecting more than 60 bridges, prioritizing those in the worst condition.
