Ex-brookfield Officer Gets Probation in Evidence-tampering Case

A former Brookfield High School resource officer has been sentenced to probation for tampering with evidence in a case involving explicit photos of students. Thirty-five year old Steven Rountos was given three years probation and a suspended five-year prison term after pleading no contest in Danbury Superior Court. He was accused of destroying a cellphone investigators believed held data linked to the photos. Rountos resigned from the department in 2021 and faced a federal lawsuit from two former students, which was later dismissed. As part of his sentence, he must avoid all contact with the victims and follow mental health treatment directives.
