Connecticut Attorney General William Tong is pushing state regulators to reject United Illuminating’s proposed $105 million rate hike. The increase would raise average electric bills by about $25 to $30 a month. Tong called the request an insult to residents struggling with high costs and said UI has failed to justify the higher rates. UI argues the hike is needed to fund infrastructure for 345,000 customers. A preliminary ruling from regulators is expected in September.
