Inmates at Cheshire Prison Launch Hunger Strike Over Lockdowns, Conditions

A group of inmates at Cheshire Correctional Institution is refusing to eat in protest of frequent lockdowns and prison conditions. Officials say up to eight prisoners joined the strike, which began earlier this week. Complaints include lack of hot water, dirty vents, poor wages, and what they call unnecessary strip searches. The Department of Correction confirmed some have resumed eating but says lockdowns are used only when staffing falls short. Medical evaluations are underway, and the strike remains active.
