Danbury Moves to Secure Mill Plain Road Site for New Fire Station

Danbury officials are looking at Mill Plain Road as the possible home for a new west side fire station. The City Council voted to let Mayor Roberto Alves begin negotiations to buy property at 84 Mill Plain, where a vacant building now stands. Alves says the location is within the recommended zone and could improve response times by up to 10 minutes in the area between Interstate 84 exits 1 and 3. Voters last fall approved $49 million for city projects, including the fire station, which could cost up to $22 million. If talks fail, the city could use eminent domain.
