Bethel Forced to Approve 42-unit Housing Plan After Court Order

Bethel’s Planning and Zoning Commission has approved a 42-unit apartment complex it originally rejected in 2023. A judge ruled the town’s concern about dust from a nearby masonry plant was only theoretical, leaving officials no choice but to sign off on the project. The Whitney Road site will include 13 affordable units under the state’s 8-30g law. The town says it has already spent $77,000 fighting the case and now plans to seek temporary relief from the state.
