44 year old Brian Engelke of Sandy Hook, a longtime volunteer firefighter, has been charged in connection with an August drunk driving crash on Great Ring Road in Newtown. Police say Engelke admitted to drinking before his Mazda struck several mailboxes and a utility pole, snapping it in half. He suffered minor injuries and turned himself in last Sunday. Engelke was released on bond and is due in court October 23.
