Former State Lawmaker Arrested After Waterbury Political Clash

A former Connecticut state lawmaker has been arrested following a profanity-filled confrontation caught on video in downtown Waterbury. Police say 61 year old Victor Cuevas was charged with breach of peace after an August argument with a rival political candidate near City Hall. Investigators say the exchange included insults and a homophobic slur and was ruled a hate incident, though it never turned physical. Cuevas, a former Democratic state representative, was arraigned earlier this week. Cuevas previously served in the state House and has past convictions unrelated to this case.
