Bethel Reconsiders Denied Apartment Project Under State Affordable Housing Law

A developer in Bethel is getting a second chance to build six two-bedroom apartments on Knollwood Drive and Reservoir Street, just two weeks after the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission denied the plan. The proposal is back under a state law that favors developers who set aside 30 percent of units as affordable housing. The developer revised the project to address the town’s earlier concerns over snow storage, sight lines, and road ownership. Under state rules, Bethel can only reject the plan again if it can prove clear health or safety risks that outweigh the housing need.
