A Greenwood Avenue home in Bethel tied to PT Barnum’s childhood may survive a planned demolition. The property owner’s attorney says if the small rear section is proven to be the old one-room schoolhouse, the town can take it and move it. The offer follows a warning from the town historian, who says losing the structure would wipe out part of Bethel’s heritage. The proposal for 18 new apartments there goes back before Planning and Zoning on December 9.
