Brookfield officials are asking a judge to throw out a wrongful termination lawsuit filed by former Human Resources Director Fern Smenyak. The town filed a motion for summary judgment, arguing there is no evidence First Selectman Steve Dunn discriminated against or targeted Smenyak when she was fired in 2023. Smenyak claims the dismissal was retaliatory and tied to disputes over the town’s pension plan. The town denies any connection and says the firing was lawful. Smenyak has also filed a separate discrimination complaint with the state.
