Connecticut Man Sentenced for $750k Pandemic Relief Fraud

A 57 year old Connecticut man has been sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for defrauding COVID-19 relief programs out of more than an astounding $750,000. Prosecutors say Omar Rajeh of Hamden used fake documents to obtain Paycheck Protection Program and disaster loans for restaurants he no longer operated. He spent most of the money on personal expenses, a property, and he sent some overseas. Rajeh has agreed to pay $758,000 in restitution. His accountant, who helped file the paperwork, also pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing.
