Connecticut is one step closer to installing speed cameras on state highways. Lawmakers have directed the Department of Transportation to develop a plan and submit proposed legislation by next Februar. Cameras already in use in work zones, and in some towns they have generated thousands of dollars in fines. A study is now underway to determine whether stationary or corridor-style systems would better slow down drivers. Last year was the state’s second deadliest for crashes, and state lawmakers say they’re looking for new ways to curb reckless driving.
