If you want to make sure you’re stocked up on alcohol for Christmas and New Year’s, you’ll need to do it before the actual holidays. Connecticut package stores must remain closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Grocery stores cannot sell beer on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day. Manufacturer permits cannot sell alcohol to go on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day. Restaurants cannot sell alcohol to go with food prepared on the premises on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day. Bars and restaurants who serve food may serve alcohol for on-premise consumption on Christmas Day. Normal hours remain the same, but establishments can stay open two extra hours on New Year’s Eve evening until 3 a.m. on New Year’s Day morning. In some cases, local ordinances may create stricter limits. Hours for cannabis dispensaries are not affected on either holiday.
