Connecticut Updates Trout Fishing Rules To Protect Brook Trout

Connecticut officials will roll out new inland sportfishing rules on January 1, 2026, aiming to bolster the state’s shrinking brook trout population. The changes raise the statewide minimum keep size for trout to nine inches, a move DEEP says will spare most wild brook trout, which rarely reach that length. Twenty-two streams also shift to year-round catch-and-release with artificial lures only.
