During a live video on the City of Danbury’s Facebook page Monday, Mayor Roberto Alves provided an update on a number of topics and answered questions from the public. Mayor Alves said he is excited to see a major project nearing the finishing line. “Danbury High School West is still slated to open this September, and they’re going to do a phase in approach of the students going in,” Alves said. The new school will welcome 800 students first: 450 10th-graders, 350 11th-graders, as well as a group of seniors who are studying to become certified nursing assistants as part of the new Academy of Scientific Innovation & Medicine. “What it’s going to do is alleviate the historic crowding that’s happened for so long at Danbury High School campus,” Alves said. Funding for the $164 million high school was approved by voters in 2022 as part of a $208 million education bond package.
