Danbury Man Charged With DUI, Assault After South Street Crash Injuring Five

A 29 year old Jose Ernesto Arias of Danbury has been arrested in connection with a December crash on South Street that seriously injured five people, according to police.
Danbury Police Department say Arias is charged with driving under the influence, second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, reckless driving, speeding, first-degree reckless endangerment, and multiple motor vehicle violations, including driving under suspension and without insurance.
The single-vehicle crash happened back on Dec. 13 when a car struck a utility pole, shutting down South Street for several hours. Five people were taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Arias was arrested Feb. 13 and is scheduled to be arraigned today in Danbury Superior Court.
