Danbury Mayor Says Public Works “experts” Choose Which Roads to Work on Next

During a live video on the City of Danbury’s Facebook page Monday, Mayor Roberto Alves provided an update on a number of topics and answered questions from the public.

The city is expanding its annual road resurfacing goal from an average of 8 miles to 15 miles per year through the end of the decade. Alves explained how Public Works chooses which of Danbury’s 244 miles of roads to work on.

“They do comprehensive studies on the conditions of our roads,” Alves said. “They drive them, they have a rating system, and they see what roads need more work.”

He added that things can quickly change in the plan. “You can have a natural disaster,” Alves said. “Something may happen that makes us have to pivot a five year plan.”

“Our subject matter experts go around and tell us what’s going on, (finding) what the worst condition roads are, so we can prioritize them,” Alves said.
